Complimenting the extensive prototype and historical items around the depot is an HO scale model railroad that uses digital command control to present an operating and painstakingly detailed recreation of railroading in Santa Susana and around California in the 1950’s.

This 53' x 25' layout, built and operated by the Santa Susana Railroad Historical Society on behalf of the Rancho Simi Foundation, is located in the Depot’s freight room. It allows visitors to envision the Depot when it was the focal point of transportation, commerce, and communication for Santa Susana and the surrounding area. The layout illustrates the scenery found between Los Angeles and San Francisco along the route of Southern Pacific’s famed Coast Daylight passenger train. Come and view this great layout!
